Ford Mustang Named Best-Selling Sports Car In The World For 2016

Analysis of the IHS Markit global automotive registration shows the Ford Mustang to be the best-selling sports vehicle in the world for 2016. More than 150,000 Mustang vehicles were sold in 2016. This iconic sports car is currently sold in 140 countries.

The 2017 Ford Mustang offers a large selection of powerful engines, a classy interior, comfortable drive and good scores on crash tests. The base model is equipped with a 3.7 liter V6 engine with an output of 300 hp and 280 pound feet of torque. The Ecoboost model comes with a 2.3 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 310 hp and 320 pound feet of torque. Rear-wheel drive is standard.

Buyers who want more power may want to opt for Ford’s high performance trims including the Ford Shelby GT350 or the Mustang Shelby GT350R which is more track focused. The Shelby GT 350 comes with a 5.2 liter V8 engine with an output of 526 hp and 429 lb feet of torque.

The Mustang seats four while the Shelby GT350R seats two. Optional seating features include leather appointed and temperature controlled seats. Standard interior features include USB ports, a rearview camera and Ford’s SYNC infotainment system. Cargo is space is roomy at 13.5 cubic feet with a 50/50 split folding rear seat.

Available safety features include ABS, air bags, daytime running lights, night vision, brake assist and a blind spot monitoring system. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded the Ford Mustang with a five-star overall safety rating.
